EMH and House of Leaves Pt.1:Â References/Details/Parallels
WARNING: If you havenât at least seen the Night Mind summaries of EMH or read HoL, and donât want spoilers, then please stop reading now.  I wonât be spending a lot of time explaining HoL either (too long), so it would be best if you already read HoL.
************MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD**************
(Iâm probably just reading too deep into it. Â If I sound like Iâm talking nonsense, thatâs probably true.)
Not a lot of people have touched on the many, many references to House of Leaves (HoL) within the series, so Iâm going to just point out all the connections I can catch.
And just to clarify, while I do think there are connections and parallels, I think the parallels only apply to a degree: Â Â just to some characters, some aspects. Â When you look at them both as a whole and try to compare them, then it doesnât really make sense.
Meaning of House:Â Â
Itâs pretty well established now that the âLeavesâ in the title of HoL can refer to paper, making the âHouseâ the book itself. Â In âBridge to Nowhereâ (Tribetwelve), HABITâs sarcastic âletâs run from him (HABIT) in his own houseâ can very well be interpreted the same way, but with this âhouseâ being the EMH show. Â However, I do not think the âhouseâ here is truly his, and I will come back to this later.
The Growing and Shifting of the House/ Impossible Geometry:Â Â
In HoL, the House on Ash Tree Lane contains an impossible dark maze that changes its layout constantly (presumably based on the changing mindset of the person trapped within). Â In EMH we experience this first hand in the video âThe propertyâ, where Vinny goes to different houses just by walking through them, as if the house was changing its own layout and appearances.
The METAness of âAuthorshipâ:Â Â
Self-explanatory. Â Either way you look at the theories in HoL, they all theorize that Zampano, Johnny Truant, or Pelafina is the author of the entire book, when in fact it is Mark Z. Danielewski who is the actual author in the real world. Â EMH is the same, except as of the latest video, the possibility that HABIT is the editor and director in-universe is being called into question.
Iterations and Mazes:Â Â
Everyone knows how the iterations work in EMH so Iâll skip to HoL.  In HoL, thereâs no iterations, but there are mazes.  And whatâs more, the maze IS the house.  Remember that the book is the house?  âa=b=c, therefore a=câ.  The book is also the maze.  The entire fiction is the maze where the characters wander about, progressing their story.  EMH is the same.  The iterations repeat, always ending in Hamlet-esque tragedy (âeveryone dies, the endâ), like a tragic play production performing over and over again, with small bits tweaked here and there each time, except the characters are trapped inside.  The EMH series, the EMH âhouseâ, is a maze.  Itâs also a maze with ash-colored walls.  Which brings us toâŚâŚâŚ..
Ashes, Ashes everywhere:Â Â
Oh boy is it everywhere. Â In EMH there's Ashen wasteland (presumed to be Centralia after the mine fire disaster), Ashland (an actual town just south of Centralia), and âhalf acre of ashâ (first brought up by Stephanie and now the title of a video).
In HoL there's Ashtree lane (where the house is), there's the ash-colored hallways of the ever-changing maze within the house, and there's the Yggdrasil mentioned at the very end, which is an ash tree. Â Personally, I believe the âashesâ in EMH is more of a clue that we should look to HoL for direction, but nothing more, since it does not have the connections to ash trees like HoL does.
Found Footage/ Cinema VĂŠritĂŠ:
Page 4 of The Navidson Record (TNR) in HoL: Â
âThe Navidson Record did not first appear as it does today. Â Nearly seven years ago what surfaced was âThe Five and a Half Minute Hallwayâ--a five and a half minute optical illusion barely exceeding the abilities of any NYU film school graduate. Â The problem, of course, was the accompanying statement that claimed all of it was true.â
That is basically a description of the found footage horror genre. Â Read the beginning of House of Leaves and you will find that its description of TNR is stunningly similar to EMH. Â To quote bits from the first chapter:
âWhere one might expect horror, the supernatural, or traditional paroxysms of dread and fear, one discovers disturbing sadness, a sequence of radioactive isotopes, or even laughter over a Simpsons episodeâ (HoL page 3)
âThe structure of âExploration #4â is highly discontinuous, jarring, and as evidenced by many poor edits, even hurried. Â The first shot catches Navidson mid-phrase.â (HoL page 5)
âThere are several more shots. Â Trees in winter. Â Blood on the kitchen floor. Â One shot of a child (Daisy) crying.â (HoL page 5)
So, jarring structure. Â Sometimes continuous shots. Â Sometimes all jump cuts. Â Very documentary-like to give a realistic quality. Â Home video-esque feel. Â Disregarding the different plot/story, stylistically EMH is practically TNR brought to life. Â And when you add in the ARG element of EMH, it becomes more interesting: Â perhaps EMH is just like TNR of the book. Â And I will be expanding on this idea in my theory.
Fictional Sources
This is more of a META aspect thing.  The Navidson Record in the HoL world was said to be nonexistent, 100% fiction.  The characters, the interviews of the characters in TNRâŚ...also pure fiction in the HoL world.  Now think about the Corenthal papers, the articlesâŚ...they are a part of the ARG, and therefore also 100% fiction.
Unreliable Narrators
Also self-explanatory. Â In EMH, neither HABIT nor Vinny are completely honest with the audience in their videos. Â And in HoL there are three: Â Johnny (lies, mental illness), Zampano (if heâs the author), and Pelafina (mental illness, and if sheâs the author).
Lâesprit de Lâescalier
Itâs a French phrase for âspirit of the staircaseâ, meaning thinking of the perfect response but itâs already too late. Â In the EMH episode titled with this phrase, Evan met Vinny as himself (temporarily released by HABIT) for the first time after the killing spree happened. Â In HoL, the phrase comes in page 72 of TNR, in Johnnyâs footnotes: Â
âNow though, I realize what I should of said--in the spirit of the dark; in the spirit of the staircase--
âKnown some call is air amâ
Which is to say --
âI am not what I used to beââ
This quote comes right after Johnnyâs account of his first major panic attack from fear, where he accidentally made a mess at the tattoo shop he worked at because of his panic episode. Â Curiously, something (presumably the monster whose presence he felt) also put a long bloody scratch on the back of his neck. Â When asked, he said nothing, but the above quote was what he think he should have said, in retrospect. Â This matches up exactly with the meaning of the phrase. Â
The phrase also appeared in page 618 in original French, but I can't see any connection there in terms of plot or meaning.
And although the phrase didnât make a lot of sense to me as the title of the EMH episode, it does now. Â The connection here is the line âI am not what I used to beâ. Â That was the whole gist of what Evan wanted to tell Vinny. Â At the time of the episode, Evan has now become the âdangerâ due to being HABITâs favorite human puppet, has already committed atrocities under HABITâs control, and received the healing factor that made him unable to die. Â Evan is not what he used to be.
Guns, Rifles, and Insanity
I don't think I've seen HABIT actually use a gun except that clip where he pointed one at the back of Vinny's neck. Â HABITâs thing has always been about blades: Â knives, saws, chainsaws, etc. Â But now a gun is becoming relevant. Â Two characters in HoL also resorted to guns as their sanity deteriorated: Â Holloway and Johnny. Â The former accidentally shot and killed one of his two companions before he killed himself with it, and the latterâs fate is unknown. Â There are two theories: Â Johnny died, though not by the gun; and Johnny lived because heâs finally freed from the burden of putting the book together.
The North Star.
North Star has become prominent in the latest videos of EMH. Â And it is also present in the book. Â The cover of the book has a red and yellow symbol (probably a compass rose) that looks like a North Star. Â Page 29 mentions the North Star by name, calling the lamp in the children's room the North Star. Â Vinny found the North Star drawing within Fairmount, where the Mining Town Four spent their iteration as kids. Â
Page 545 of the book has a more alarming message, however: Â
âStars to live by. Â Stars to steer by. Â Stars to die by.â Â
And by âall good thingsâ, this has been confirmed. Â HABIT and Vinny both died in this iteration by the knife and gun with the North Star branded on them. Â
So is it a coincidence that the EverymanHYBRID symbol looks like a North Star? Â I donât think so. Â The EMH story was meant to end in tragedy all along.
The Radiation Detector
Yes, in TNR, Navidson also had a radiation detector that ticked . Â And the following quote: Â
âNavidson turns to the time telling tick of radioactive isotopes to deny the darkness eviscerating him from withinâ (HoL page 381)
Evan doesnât really try to âdenyâ the darkness (HABIT) within him in âSigmaâ, but of course, thereâs still purple duct tape on his bandage.
The Quote Jeff Circled
âWhy did god create a dual universe? Â
So he might say,
âBe not like me, I am alone.â
And it might be heardâ (HoL page 45)
This quote, by itself, is confusing as hell. Â One has to put it in context of the chapter to make any sense of it, just for the book alone. Â The chapter it appears in, nicknamed the âEchoes chapterâ, is one of the most important chapters of HoL. Â Basically it explores the concept of echoes, what it is, what it implies, in various different aspects. Â Echoing is indicative of a closed, finite space, and there are no echoes in infinite space. Â Echoing can also create a sort of illusion that someone is there, repeating your words. Â So the quote above can mean the loneliness of god, the duality that comes with echoes, the universal need for social interaction, the universal need to be individuals,.........etc etc.
The âbe not like me, I am aloneâ part also came up on Stephâs blog.
This quote, I havenât quite figured out what it really means in the context of EMH, but I have a guess. Â
Leaning Against a Tree
Just an interesting bit Iâve noticed that might have some significance. Â In the end of HoL, if you believe Johnny died, then he died leaning against an ash tree. Â Holloway also died leaning against the ash-en walls of the maze, by gun, although it was suicide (the book also talks about Holloway suffering for a minute after he shot himself). Â Both HABIT and Vinny died leaning against a tree in âAll good thingsâ. Â Hmm.
Apartment 3103 and the abyss
In the climax of TNR, Navidson is trapped within the endless abyss of the maze, where the ashen walls and floor disappear gradually until heâs on a small platform, with only a book to keep him company. Â Navidson was literally in an endless isolation chamber. Â Sounds very much like Vinny when he was trapped in Apartment 3103 for two years.
Can You See The Words
This one has been covered by the EMH wikia. Â CYSTW does have a formatting style similar to HoL.
Water, Drowning, and Insanity
In earlier videos (hidden videos), Evan has been shown to be drowning in water. Â There were also clips of flooding. Â In HoL, the person who talks about drowning and the hopelessness of it is Johnny. Â As Johnny spirals downward mentally, both the number of times he mentions drowning go up, each time with greater detail. Â Water here is symbolic of madness.
Interestingly, water is also crossed out in CYSTW, similar to passages about the Minotaur in HoL. Â The Minotaur is the imaginary monster in the house/maze. Â This gives weight to the theory that HABIT was just Evanâs insane alter ego.
Falsity of Images
Page 527 of HoL has the following quote: Â
âthey (images) may be heartwarming but what they imply rings false.â
As of âAll good thingsâ, this quote becomes very interesting when applied to Vinny.
CYSTW and The Whalestoe Letters
Stephâs blog is very reminiscent of The Whalestoe Letters section in HoL. Â The cryptic messages, the way her character feels like Pelafina.
Finding Fairmount/ Finding Whalestoe
Johnnyâs journey to find Whalestoe (HoL pages 503-504) is very similar to Vinnyâs journey to find Fairmount. Â Whalestoe was a mental institute, where Johnnyâs mother, Pelafina, use to live. Â When Johnny got there, however, the institute has long been abandoned, with graffiti on the walls. Â Just like Fairmount.
âThis is no longer their game. Â Consider yourself marked.â
This message could only be found by tilting the screen while looking at Stephâs blog. Â In HoL, at least one of Pelafinaâs letters are entirely in code, and one letter leaves decoding instructions.
And finally, a note on the META aspect
In HoL, TNR is discussed among scholars who wrote works after works arguing over details in the film.  Taking into account that EMH is like TNRâŚ..and everyone who took part in the ARG or discussed EMH theories, including me and this post, also becomes part of the story.  Itâs pretty crazy.

How to Stop Your Dog From Digging up Your Lawn@|how to stop dogs digging in garden@|https://ift.tt/3h4oc2H
Whether youâre a long-time home-owner or bringing your dog home to a lawn of your own for the very first time, sharing a green space with your best friend can feel like a dream come true. But when your dog is constantly digging holes in your hard-won grass carpet, letting Fido roam free in your piece of the great outdoors quickly turns into less of a dream and more of a lawn-care nightmare.
Dog-dug holes arenât only an eyesore, they can make your backyard a dangerous environment where a twisted ankle is always one false step away. Before you chalk your lawn up as a loss, try these steps to bring your outdoor space back to the beautiful yard you fell in love with before your dog got its paws in it.
[external_link_head]
1. Try Some Pet Psychology
Chances are, your dog has already identified their favorite spots to dig up dirt. You can use the location of these spots as a clue to understand why your dog is digging. The American Kennel Club points out that dogs dig for all kinds of reasons, including hunting, seeking shelter, boredom, or even trying to sneak away. You should address your dogâs behavior by addressing the reason. Before you aim to put the kibosh on digging behaviors, watch the way your dog is digging. Do they seem frantic, manic, and stressed? Or is the digging strategic â like there is some goal in mind?
If your dog is digging holes that are close to the edges of your property or another boundary, like a fence, itâs possible theyâre curious about what lies beyond the lawn â and are trying to engineer a prison-break.
If the holes that appear seem to be close together, near a main open area or at the roots of your shrubs, your dog may be hunting down intruding animals (like field mice, raccoons, or possums). This is even more likely if your dog is a hunting breed, like a labrador, retriever, or beagle.
Holes that are located near the foundation of your home, around the borders of your deck, or in shady areas may indicate that your dog is just seeking out comfort. Digging to create a cool or sheltered area to lay down in isnât your dog behaving badly as much as it is a natural response for any animal.
[external_link offset=1]
Of course, thereâs also times that your dog is simply digging holes to pass the time, to let off steam, or even as a way to get attention. Maybe your dog recently saw you doing some yard work and wants to get in on the âfunâ. Or maybe you have a high-energy breed of dog, or a puppy that is trying to tell you that they arenât getting quite enough exercise.
2. Do Some Digging of Your Own
This may seem counterintuitive, but a big part of solving the problem of your dog digging up your lawn might center around picking up your own garden shovel.
First, identify a spot that will be your dogâs go-to digging spot. This should be different than the designated spot you have for your pet to relieve themselves. If your lawn is big enough, put your petâs new burrowing hub at the opposite end of your yard from the places that are currently being uprooted regularly, so that those areas can be overseeded and repaired. You might even try a child-size sandbox.
Wherever you decide to put your âdigging zoneâ, let your fluffy friend know that this small space is their own digging paradise by burying incentives, like chew toys and rawhides, 2-3 inches below the ground.
Next, youâll need to cover dug-up areas with top soil. While youâre doing so, bury known doggy-digging deterrents, like plastic chicken wire, about six inches below the surface of the soil. Donât use metal or any other material that could hurt your dogâs paws permanently. Covering favorite digging spots with flat rocks temporarily is another deterrent.
Finally, take a thorough walk through your lawn to uncover and dispose of any dog feces that may be lurking in spots youâve missed. Dog poop draws vermin to your lawn, even if they only come out at night. The leftover scents of these nocturnal lurkers might be driving your dog to dig. Rinse the areas where youâve picked up dog feces with a firm spritz or two from your garden hose.
3. Supervise Your Dog Outside
You want your dog to stop digging up your lawn. And your dog may even be aware of that! But without direct, consistent guidance from their favorite person â you! â they wonât even be able to quit their digging habit.
If your dog digs because they are seeking comfort or shelter, you can eliminate their need to do that. Give your dog access to an outdoor doggie-hammock and put it in a shady space. Limit your dogâs unsupervised time outside, at least during the period youâre focused on correcting their behavior. Make sure they have access to fresh water whenever they are on the lawn.
Note that filling your dogâs holes in with water for them to drink or punishing your dog when they dig isnât helpful. You need to take a firm stance to help correct your dogâs behavior, but making them drink muddy water, isolating them, or putting them in a âtime outâ will probably just confuse your pup and might even add stress to your relationship, which could make digging worse.
[external_link offset=2]
When your dog starts to go to town on his or her favorite digging spots, give them a firm no.â If youâve set up a digging zone, lead them to it whenever digging begins. Praise your dog warmly and offer treats or rewards when they stop digging and when they dig in the right place. Theyâll get the message loud and clear.
4. Give Your Dog More Exercise And Attention
For many high-energy breeds of dog, the answer to the problem of holes in your lawn is a serious increase in attention, supervision, and fun activities for your dog. Itâs irritating to have a dog thatâs always creating holes in your beautiful outdoor space, but your dog canât stop their urge to dig any more than you can stop wishing theyâd quit digging.
Most importantly, try to increase the amount of activity and attention that your dog is getting each and every day. If âletting the dog outâ has become a convenient replacement for your dogâs daily walks, your pet might be feeling neglected. Spend time together outside of your lawn, and add brisk exercise (like fetching and frisbee) to the list of experiences youâre giving your dog on a regular basis.
If you have a high-energy breed, like a shepherd, a collie, or a terrier, a higher degree of energy-intervention might be required. Giving your dog puzzles to solve indoors and allowing them time to actually run and jump around at full speed might be the only things that help to quiet their minds. The more positive attention you are giving your dog, the easier it will be to train them. Again, negative attention, like yelling and punishment, isnât going to correct this behavior.
But What If Nothing Works?
What if all else fails and your canine companion never stops digging? Or what if he does stop digging, but your damaged lawn still looks like it could use an upgrade? Never you fear. Regardless of how enthusiastic or aggressive Fido is in his use of your shared green space, BarkYard
can help make things better.
By incorporating Good Boy
and Bad Spot!

Overseeding and fertilizing your lawn after youâve worked to correct your dogâs behavior will give your green space an instant facelift. *shimmies in* adam knowing something's wrong when koko comes out in sweats and completely not made up. hair down and no eyeliner and he doesnt try to say anything snarky at adam's appearance. turns out there was an article about his boyz performing after he left and it being a total hit, none of them even mentioned koko in the interviews, and adam has no idea how to react because koko's been such a /presence/ since they got there
;)Â
-
Kokoâs intimidating on most days, wearing mesh and leather;face impassive as if everythingâs not worth his time (Adam supposes thatâs justKokoâs resting face, but honestly heâs not too keen on studying himself too closely, after all.)
So when he wakes up to Schling, curled up on one side of hisbed, heâs confused at best; Schling and Koko, whatever they are, share thecouchâAdamâs come into the living room many mornings to the two of them wrappedaround each other under one of Adamâs spare blankets.
He shakes Schling wake, but it proves to be futile becauseall Schling does is snores and rolls closer to the center of the bed; Figures, Adam mumbles with a shake ofhis head as he slips out of bed; the feeling of something not right hits him when he reaches his bedroom door andhe fights with that oddness in the pit of his stomach as he goes to relievehimself and brush his teeth.
(It morphs into something more definite when he steps intothe living room and sees Kokoâlooking smaller than usual with gray sweatpantsand a too big t-shirt; his face is makeup free and hair without product. He hasa cushion in his arms, heâs squeezing it, if the tension in his arms is anyindication and Adam frowns, the unnerving way Kokoâs staring at the televisionin front of him off putting.)
Koko? He askscarefully as he moves towards the couch, lingers around the arm of it as if heâsafraid to get too close, Is everythingalright?
The mirthless smile that crosses Kokoâs lips catches Adamoff guard, a laugh is forced out, twisted and heavy, Iâm not, he says, blunt and then, a string of words in German, facecontorted into something between sadness and disgust.
The boys, they donâtneed me, he says, Iâd much ratherstay here where at least Iâm tolerated.
Adam finds it a little alarming, jarring, because they donâtreally talk about Schling or Koko going back, theyâre not sure why theyâre herein the first place, so figuring out a way to send them back would beâŚwellâŚahorrible ideaâIâm an idiot. (And hefeels bad that he zoned out on Koko talking, his own mind running as to whyKoko seems distressed, no...upset.)
He sits on the couch, carefully, gingerly, keeps areasonable distance between them but turns so heâs looking at Koko, Do you want to talk about it? heâs notgood at talking but heâs pretty alright at listening and maybe, maybe itâssomething that can be fixed by ventingâthatâs a valid strategy, right?
Another laugh and Koko looks at him this time, You donât even want me here, he says, the words unnecessarily heavy, face twisted into something ugly, You only barely tolerate me, just as theboys did and yet, yet I want to stay here, because youâre better at faking it.
(Adam wants to deny the accusation, he more than tolerates Koko, but Kokoâs pushing on,speaking again, more German, angry and self deprecating and Adamâs headâsspinning now.)
Before I left, hoursmaybe, there was an interview released, after they sabotaged my show, wherethey didnât mention me, they justâŚthey talked about how they were strong andwere going to release music soon, other thingsâŚ.he shakes his head, sayssomething in German once more, short and with a crude sort of smirk, Guess they finally got tired of me, mm?
He doesnât know what to say, itâs so different from the Assassin Superstar short they did, therewerenât these feelings behind the characters, nothing this fleshed out, just early clues to something much biggerâhe doesnâtknow how to process this, that thereâs actualproblems, that the sabotaging happened.
Youâre going to gettired of me too, Koko says and looks up at Adam, he looks tired, sad andhis eyes are a little red, You andSchling will get tired of me.
A surge of somethingAdam canât name travels through him and he shakes his head, No, he says, voice fierce and low, No, Koko, no. We wonât get tired of you. Hefeels almost protective over Koko(and to an extent, Schling), and he reaches out, grabs one of Kokoâs hands (hisnail polish is chipped, nails chewed down messily and god, itâs worse than Adam thought.) Whatever it is, youâve got us.
Koko squeezes his hand once, twice, and then drops hisshoulders, looks down at his lap, I wantto believe you, he murmurs, the words slurring together messily and Adamshifts closer, curls his other hand around the back of Kokoâs squeezes his handbetween both palms, We wonât get tired ofyou. He says again, as if trying to drive his point him.
(Kokoâs smile is weak but hopeful around the edges, notperfect and still a little hesitant but Adam counts it as something.)

Harnessing Stock Sector Volatility
http://topicsofnote.com/?p=3492&utm_source=SocialAutoPoster&utm_medium=Social&utm_campaign=Tumblr
If you have been to Google "stock marketplace volatility", you would discover a vast range of observations, conversations, experiences, analyses, recipes, critiques, predictions, alarms, and causal confusion. Publications have been created indices and measuring equipment have been developed rationales and conclusions have been proffered. Nevertheless, the volatility stays.
Statisticians, economists, regulators, politicians, and Wall Road gurus have resolved the volatility issue in a person fashion or one more. In truth, just about every day's gyrations are stated, described on, recorded for afterwards pro investigation, and head scratched about.
The only problem I continue to have about all this comical hubbub is why don't y'all just take it easy and delight in it? If you individual only substantial high-quality profits making securities, diversify effectively, and adopt a disciplined profit-using program, you can make inventory market place volatility your pretty best close friend (VBF).
A long time ago, a anonymous figures professor introduced me out of a semi-comatose state with an observation about statisticians, politicians, and economists. "In the genuine entire world", he stated, "there are liars, damn liars, and any member of the groups just stated". An economist or a politician, armed with a battery of stats, is an ominous power in truth.
Very well, now, all economists and statisticians have higher run pcs and the skill to examine volatility with the same degree of certainty (or is it conceitedness) that they have created with regard to personal-stock danger investigation, financial and geographical sector correlation dynamics, and future prediction in standard.
But the volatility (and the uncertainty it both causes or effects from, depending on the skilled you hear to) persists.
Modern-day pcs are so highly effective, in reality, that economists and statisticians can now estimate the expense prospective buyers of just about something. So loaded in data are these masters of possibilities, alphas, betas, correlation coefficients, and common deviations, that the fiscal environment by itself has turn out to be, mundane, boring, and effortless to offer with. Yeah, certain it has.
Since they can predict the upcoming with these kinds of a high diploma of chance, and hedge against any uncertainty with still another substantial degree of likelihood, why then is the fiscal world in these types of a serious condition of upheaval? And why-o-why does the volatility, and the uncertainty, continue?
I assume that you are anticipating an opinion (however an additional impression) on why the volatility is as pronounced as it would seem to be as opposed with several years earlier. Frankly, Scarlett, I cannot genuinely make myself give a damn. The uncertainty that we are requested to think is induced by volatility just just is not. Uncertainty is the regulation participating in industry of the investment decision recreation... and of life, really.
The much more you invest in higher hazard securities, the much more you speculate on potential directional change, the more you disregard escalating revenue, and concentration only on market place benefit, the extra unsure your expenditure surroundings turns into. So possibility, speculation, lousy diversification, reduced profits era, and up only current market worth expectations blend to exacerbate uncertainty, but almost nothing can remove it... only that is specific.
Volatility, on the other hand is basically a drive of mother nature, a single that requirements to be embraced and dealt with constructively if a single is to realize success as an trader.
But this equipment pushed, hyper-volatility that we have been dealing with not long ago, has been magnified by the darkest forces of the "dismal science" and the variations that it has inspired in the way money experts see the make-up of the modern expense portfolio.
On the bright aspect, enhanced marketplace volatility really boosts the power of the equity and revenue safety buying and selling disciplines and strategies within the Industry Cycle...Financial commitment Administration ( MCIM ) methodology... an approach to current market reality that embraces marketplace turbulence, and harnesses market place volatility for final results that go away most experts both speechless or in denial.
MCIM focuses on the optimum high-quality equity securities and properly diversified cash flow protection portfolios, developing a reduce than typical risk ecosystem wherever rate fluctuations can be dealt with productively, without the need of worry. Greater costs make financial gain having transactions reduced rates invite extra expenditure. The fundamental high-quality, diversification, and profits technology build a a lot more tolerable "uncertainty quotient" than other methodologies.
But, with no statistical information important (or available) to assist the adhering to opinion, look at this simplistic rationale for the hyper-volatility of present day inventory industry.
Volatility is a purpose of supply and demand from customers for the popular stock of a finite range of dirty, evil, greedy, polluting, congress corrupting, occupation producing, products and assistance supplying, innovation and wealth acquiring, basis supporting, present supplying, tax-gathering firms.
People of us who trade prevalent stocks in typical, Expenditure Grade Value Stocks in distinct, owe a credit card debt of gratitude to the true volatility creators: the hundreds of thousands of derivative items that deliver an solely speculative variety of oblique source and need to the securities markets.
Generally talking, the elementary, emotional, political, economic, international, environmental, and psychological forces that affect inventory market selling prices have not improved considerably, if at all.
Shorter term sector actions are just as unpredictable as they have at any time been. They continue to trigger the uncertainty you need to deal with, by utilizing demonstrated chance minimization strategies like asset allocation, diversification, and profit using.
The crucial improve agents, the new youngsters on the block, are the derivative betting mechanisms (Index ETFs, for instance) and their impact on the finite amount of shares accessible for trading. Each individual working day on the inventory trade, thousands of equities are traded, a billion shares transform hands. The common share is "held" for mere minutes. No one particular seems to we request out analysts who spin tales of "basic" brilliance, profitability, or money production.
On leading of derivative buying and selling in serious issues these types of as sectors, international locations, companies, commodities, and industries, we have a myriad of index betting units, shorter-extensive parlor games, alternative strategies, etc. What is actually a simple frequent share of Exxon to do? I have listened to fiscal talk show hosts alert listeners to never ever, not ever, get an particular person equity!
Is today's motion in any personal equity the final result of demand from customers for the corporation shares themselves, or desire for the multiple cash, indices, and other derivatives that observe or contain the firm in their "design"? How lots of by-product entrepreneurs have a clue what is actually inside their ETF?
We are in an environment where investors feel smarter working in sectors than in providers where by 401k "retirement" plans (they genuinely are not retirement designs, you know) are banned by regulators from presenting even moderately high yielding financial commitment options, and wherever govt fiscal insurance policies have forced thousands and thousands of genuine retirement savings accounts to seek out refuge in the shark infested waters all around Wall Street.
Sector volatility is in this article to remain, at least until multi-stage and multi-directional derivatives are relocated to the Las Vegas casinos the place they belong, right up until regulators realize that 7% following greater bills is better than 2% after negligible fees, and right up until fascination charges are authorized to return to fairly normal amounts... and this is what feels to some like an elevated amount of uncertainty.
For the discernible foreseeable future, we will require to locate a way, a methodology, that will make equally of them our VBFs.

6 Animation Guidelines for UX Design
Useful is better than delightful.
If youâve read my previous article youâve probably already figured out that Iâm quite fond of animation (aka motion design). Besides giving life to a static image, animation can help you tell a story much more effectively.
Just look at the millions of people glued to their screens watching animated series (myself includedâŚwubba lubba dub dub!). However, thatâs not all animation can do, thatâs precisely why I decided to write this article.
Before I start, a little bit of context. In the beginning of 2015 I gave a presentation where I framed animation as an essential discipline to design a good user experience, I talked about the 12 basic principles of animation, underlining which ones make sense in UI animations and all that shebang.
vimeo
The 12 basic principles of animation beautifully animated by Cento Lodigiani
More than two years later Iâm more than aware that this is not exactly breaking news or is it going to shatter any ceilings. Companies like Apple & Google really made the effort to integrate animation in their products and by consequence facilitating and encouraging Developers & Designers across the world to do the same, and so they did.
This was definitely a step in the right direction but along the way I think weâve accidentally stepped on something brown, and it stinks a little. WAIT! Donât pull out your pitchforks and torches just yet, let me first explain what I mean with a personal story.
Letâs go back in time to 2003. I was just getting started in graphic design and had little to no knowledge about it. I remember the first tool I learned how to use was Macromedia Freehand, and it was mind blowing. The possibilities were endless. Gradients, drop shadows, comic sans, you name it and I was using it all together. The result? Well, as you probably can imagine it looked like a mess. But donât give the young me a hard time, I was an unsupervised kid in a candy store, so I ate all the candy that I wanted and ended up with a belly ache. Just like John Snow, I knew nothing.
Back to the present. Youâre probably asking: What does this have to do with animation? I think, EVERYTHING. Developers and Designers are the young me in this story, and in many apps and websites theyâre using animation recklessly, defeating the whole point of improving the user experience with animation.
Now, I could go through a series of examples and point out what theyâre doing wrong but, honestly, that sounds kind of lazy. Instead I thought it could be more useful for you, reading this article, if I point out how (in my humble opinion, of course) animation can be integrated in a way that is not superfluous but rather an essential piece of a good user experience. So, after some time thinking and researching I came up with a list of 6 guidelines that I hope can be helpful for your animation endeavours.
Letâs start with the obvious one.
1. Animation shouldnât be an afterthought
You have all your interactions defined and visual design locked down to the pixel but you feel like something is missing. Then you might think âtime to flair it up with some animationâ. Big mistake and one of the reasons why animation is being so misused. Itâs been considered at the end of the design process with the same consideration you would put into a transition effect in PowerPoint, and thatâs just wrong.
Think of the user experience as a cake. In most cases animation is being thought as the cherry on top of the cake but I completely disagree with that approach. I think animation should be just another ingredient that you need to mix into the cake batter.
Quick sketch I made for the animations in this article.
This to say that animation should already be in your head when you are sketching your wireframes. It can be as simple as an arrow indicating where a certain object is going to go after a button is pressed or a simple note. Keep it simple, this will help you find a purpose for the motion (or a motion for a certain purpose) without focusing too much how it looks. This also helps you not to become too attached, because animation wonât always be the solution to your problem. Just discard it if itâs not helping you accomplish something, unnecessary animation will just be an obstacle for the end user.
This takes us straight to the next guideline.
2. Animation must serve a purpose
Gratuitous animation will just take your userâs precious time and after the first initial delight the user will get tired of it, thatâs why animation needs to be functional. If youâre wondering what animation can help you with, here are some examples.
Soften harsh cuts
No transition vs Horizontal slide transition
Designer or not, weâre all familiar with this. You are in screen A, you press a button and BAM! A completely different screen (B) suddenly appears. Then youâre left wondering, where did you come from? Did I press the right button? What now? What if âBâ is visually similar to A? The user might even think that nothing happened. This shows one of the most suitable candidates for animation, moments of change. Consider the time that takes to make the ÂŤjourneyâ from screen A to B, what objects are kept in the screen and show your users how they got there. Donât overdo it though, as youâll discover further down, animation is better served âinvisibleâ.
Provide context
No transition vs Slide-in from the bottom
Sometimes you land on a screen and youâre not quite sure how to interact with it straight away. A good way to help the user is to provide a clue of the proprieties of a certain object when it is introduced. If you have a list of posts, for instance, sliding them could help the user understand that he can keep swiping to see more.
You can even add another layer to this by timing their appearance in a way they slide one after the other, this will reinforce that these items are separate and you can interact with each one individually.
Letâs say that you decide to tap one of them and it opens to display the entire content for a specific post. Now the information that was previously at the same level of others is now the principal. To animate this transition is a good way to reinforce the userâs selection and also to show that youâre still interacting with the same object but in a focused state, which also gives you more screen real-estate.
Provide Orientation
When all the obstacles between the UI and the user are removed from the equation the UI becomes more physical, therefore itâs important to give the user a sense of spatial orientation. You can accomplish this by being consistent with your animations and keep your app structure simple to digest.
Consider an object that moves out of the screen to the left, if it reappears, logically, it should come from where it exited. This will help your users understand the app physiognomy and by consequence make them feel more comfortable when interacting with it. If you do it otherwise it will just create confusion and your users might even think that theyâre looking at a different object.
Content entering from the bottom vs Content entering from the right (where the arrow is pointing)
The same applies to the visual hints present in the screen. Imagine that you pressed a list item with an arrow pointing to the right, the logical transition should be a slide from right to left, as if the user view port was moving right, reinforcing the visual clue in the UI. Many times youâll see the UI elements contradicting the transition. Personally I find this very annoying and I think itâs something we should avoid, otherwise the animation will look intrusive to the users since it defies what they expected to happen.
Provide instant feedback
Have you ever asked yourself, did I press that button? Did it do anything? Should I press it again? The answer probably is yes and you probably pressed it again just to realise that you actually pressed it in the first place. Thatâs why providing instant feedback is important, even if the app doesnât respond instantaneously.
In a world where your finger often covers the button youâre pressing, animation plays a huge roll in providing the user the reassurance they need.
Subtle color change vs Quick animation
In some cases, you can even take it one step further and jazz it up a bit. Letâs say you have a âstarâ button in your app which is one of your âheroâ actions (never seen before, I know). This is exactly when you can be playful and delight your user. Make it feel rewarding and the user will want to repeat the action. Be mindful with time, the animation needs to feel instantaneous or it will become old and annoying soon. Also, donât jazz it up too much.
Make the content feel alive
No transition vs Slide in from the top
If your app or website has live content, like pictures, comments or some sort of counter, animation can help you accomplish two things. Smooth the addition of new elements and cushion the possible delay of loading such elements.
Storytelling
In almost every application, thereâs a place where we need to explain something that went wrong or introduce a new feature. Illustrations play a huge roll here, providing a more visual and immediate way to understand a problem and how to fix it. If an image is better than a thousand words, imagine an animation, thatâs like 30 images every second.
Trying to put a smile in the userâs face, despite the negative message.
This type of screen is really the time and place where animation can shine, be memorable and bring a smile to the userâs face, especially if something went wrong. However, if your app is constantly showing an error screen, then you might want to ignore this point. The last thing you need is for your user to remember all the times that error came up.
Now that you have some clues on when and where animation can be used we must proceed to the how.
3. Animation must reflect the brand
Consider a simple motion of an object from left to right. There are virtually endless ways to make this motion just by tweaking itâs easing curve. With this you can add a personality to your animation. See the example below, all use the same animation and timing, the only difference is the easing curve.
A: Quick & snappy, B: Smooth & natural, C:Â Bouncy
The possibilities are endless but, before going crazy and make all your transitions bounce like gelatine, consider your brand, your user and the tone you want to transmit. If the animation doesnât fit the tone your users might feel out of place and lose their trust in your brand. Imagine if your banking app had the same bouncy style of animation you find in a game. Would you trust it?
Itâs important that your animation reflects the brand but something you must keep in mind when designing your animation is the next guideline.
4. Animation shouldnât be the hero
Animation is here to save the day, not like a standalone hero but more like the Ninja Turtles, fighting as a team playing on each otherâs strengths. If your animation takes the centre stage, youâre not designing an experience, youâre just forcing the user to watch a movie.
Flashy vs Consistent
Animation needs to be part of the whole experience, complementing the visual design and a supporting the interactions, to achieve this restraint is key. In most cases a good animation is the one that users donât even notice.
If youâre designing, your job is not to entertain the user but rather help him accomplish something in the easiest, most intuitive and natural way possible, and the next guideline comes to help with that.
5. Animation must feel natural
Linear animation vs Ease-in & out
I know that the word âfeelâ might be ambiguous, but bear with me. Since the user interacts directly with the UI thereâs a certain expectation that the UI follows, to a certain extent, rules of physics. A list that responds to the speed youâve interacted with is a perfect example, but the same applies to other objects.
However, this doesnât mean that all the apps should react the same way. In the real world if you kick a ball they donât react the same way. A football will fly away but a bowling ball will probably just hurt your foot. As I mentioned in the previous guideline, itâs all about the tone and the weight you want your brand to transmit.
You have to define whatâs your appâs âmaterialâ and weight, and make it behave accordingly, but remember to always adjust it if necessary so it doesnât go against the next guideline.
6. Animation must not waste time
Both animations take 6 seconds.
Animation can be used to tweak the userâs perception of time, so use this in your favour. For the human brain, anything below 0.1 seconds will seem instantaneous and below 1 second will seem seamless. So, if you have a process that takes 6 seconds for instance, you can break it down in a few separate animations. This trick should make the process feel a lot faster and keep your user engaged.
You can also use animation to fake an instant action that will actually take bit longer in the background. This will make the app feel more responsive even though the process still takes longer than what the user sees.
You canât mimic everything in the real world, you need to take into account the userâs expectations. If you press a button in the UI you expect an instant feedback, thus itâs not the best place to apply physics, so donât ease-in an animation in cases like this.
Ok, if you made it this far I truly believe that, if you apply these guidelines, youâre in a good path to make the best of animation and improve not only how your UI looks and feels but also how your user experiences it. Now that you know the guidelines, you still need to go over a few more jumps.
The last hurdles
If you want your user engaged you need to provide a seamless experience and, if used right, animation can definitely help you to accomplish that. Itâs not going to be an easy journey though, as with anything design related you need to be prepared for an iterative process.
You also need to know how to prototype and collect feedback, if your colleagues lack the vocabulary itâs going to be hard to communicate. They wonât be able to comment on your animation without using an onomatopoeia (e.g. âThat button could go more like swoosh and then kablam, you know?â), for that reason I think itâs good to introduce people to the 12 basic principles of animation, so they get familiar with the terms allowing them to express themselves in a way that you can understand.
One last hurdle to go, the effort that your development team can/wants to put into animation. You really need to push through and show them that in a world where animation is becoming an intrinsic part of a good user experience the question is not if, but when are you going to have to catch up with the herd? The sooner you do it the better. Your user will appreciate it and you will reap the benefits.
There you have it, my 6 Animation Guidelines for UX Design. If this sparked your interest and you want to dive deeper in this subject I can recommend a few other articles and authors that inspired me to write this.

I really hope that you find this article useful, I know that Iâm not the first (or will be the last) to talk about animation in the UI, but I tried to take a slightly different approach, not focusing so much on how the animations looks like but rather how they can help the end user.
I invite you to participate in the discussion in the comments below, Iâm always interested to know your thoughts and happy to answer any questions you might have in your mind.
Thanks for reading! :)

Why People Faint at the Theater
Consciousness is the foundation of the human experience. Lose it even temporarily, however, and it becomes clear how delicate the whole structure is.
This has become clear to certain audience members at the current Broadway production of 1984, which is running until October 8. There have been reports of viewers fainting, vomiting, fighting, and experiencing seizures due to the playâs vivid torture scenes (including electrocution) and confrontational attitude toward the audience (including actors shouting at viewers about their complicity).
Codirector Robert Icke is used to this by now. Before transferring to New York, the production ran for several years in London. Particularly in its first year, he told me, the first-aid charity âSt. John Ambulance used to park outside the matinees in advance.â While the New York theater warns attendees of the playâs âgraphic depictions of violence and torture,â Icke contends that the play isnât actually all that explicit. He argues that theatergoers are fainting because of whatâs implied. âIt isnât so much stagingâwe show hardly any violence at all in 1984âitâs about leading the audience to create the unthinkable images in their own imaginations. That way, the images are personal and therefore far more distressing than anything we could depict.â
Whether these faints are provoked by whatâs on stage or whatâs happening in viewersâ minds, itâs an emotional distress that is prompting audience members to pass out. Physically, theyâre probably perfectly safe. So whatâs causing them to faint?
Broadly speaking, there are three main types of faints: ones stemming from serious heart problems (cardiac syncope), ones where blood pressure dips due to standing up (orthostatic syncope), and ones caused by specific triggers (reflex syncope). While plenty of animals faintâminiature schnauzers are prone to irregular heartbeats, for instance, and squirrel monkeys can have low blood sugarâreflex faints appear to be unique to humans.
Reflex faints are activated by the nervous system, which slows down the heart rate and/or lowers the blood pressure in response to strain, leading to reduced blood flow to the brain. Triggers for this can be surprisingly benign. For some people, laughing, coughing, swallowing, urinating, or blowing a trumpet can lead to syncope. Win-Kuang Shen, a Mayo Clinic cardiologist and coauthor of the recently published clinical guidelines for assessing and treating syncope, explained that the nervous system doesnât distinguish between physical and emotional distress; theyâre both stress inputs, leading to the same response.
The most common reflex faints are known as vasovagal faints. Generally, when people describe ordinary fainting, theyâre referring to vasovagal syncope. âOne-third of the population has vasovagal faints,â said J. Gert van Dijk, a neurologist at Leiden University in the Netherlands.
The name derives from âvasoâ (blood vessels) and the vagus nerve, which extends from the brain to the abdomen, spreading fibers to major organs like the heart and lungs. The vagus nerve is responsible for regulating heart rate, sweating, and other essential functions. Triggers like the ones mentioned above lead to confusion in the mechanism for controlling heart rate and blood pressure. Vasovagal faints are essentially a protective mechanism.
Letâs take an example. Youâre watching a scary movie or a play about ghosts. During the tense bits, adrenaline is released into your bloodstream. This leads your heart to beat faster and the blood flow to your muscles to increase. Essentially, the nervous system is bolstering your energy and preparing you to fight, as it doesnât make the fine distinction that whatâs on screen or on stage canât actually hurt you. The parasympathetic nervous system, of which the vagus nerve forms part, seeks to calm you down by lowering your blood pressure and heart rate. Sometimes, though, it overshoots, and your blood pressure might drop too much or your heart rate might slow too far.
Emotional faints are the most common kind of faints overall. These can be activated by fear, excitement, or anxiety, such as one might experience at an intense play like 1984. As van Dijk commented, âIt looks horrible and it grabs you emotionally. And if you have the type of vasovagal faint which is prone to emotional triggers such as seeing blood or pain, that can certainly evoke fainting in susceptible people.â
Shen confirmed that just thinking about something distressing can be enough to cause fainting. The sight of blood is one reported by many people, but clinicians have also reported faints provoked by hearing bad news, encountering needles, or seeing gore.
This gore doesnât even have to be real to create a swoony feeling. The long list of movies that have been reported to make viewers faint includes not just contemporary horror films like Hostel and Raw, or dramas with intensely gory scenes like 127 Hoursâ infamous arm-sawing. In 1928, a nurse at a San Francisco movie theater reported that Bela Lugosiâs Dracula, which would be tame to modern audiences, caused about 14 viewers to faint each evening.
In the theater world, as well, every so often a new production will give rise to faints. While theater directors may not have access to all the cinematic trickery of, say, horror-film crews, they have one very valuable tool: The scenes are happening live, in real time. âLive performances would be more of a triggerâ than recorded ones, said David G. Benditt, a University of Minnesota cardiologist. âThe differences between live events and filmed events may be the realism aspect ... Live events look more real.â
The current version of 1984 is the most recent example of fainting-related notoriety, but there have been plenty of others. There was a notoriously bloody staging of Titus Andronicus at Shakespeareâs Globe Theater in 2014. The show counted among its victims a theater critic from The Independent, who called the production both âexceptionalâ and âunwatchableââunwatchable, presumably, because she was unconscious for part of it.
A commonality in these cases is in the quality of the acting. Many of the firsthand accounts from the fainting viewers call attention to the intensity of a performance, even when the violence is implied, as in Alan Ayckbournâs Haunting Julia (staged in 2011), rather than overt.
Accounts of swooning at the theater are nothing new, though. The 1782 premiere of Friedrich Schillerâs Die Räuber, a dissection of evil played out between two brothers, took place in Mannheim, Germany. The naturalistic response by one actor, on receiving news of a characterâs death, so shocked the audience that âfainting women had to be helped toward the exits.â More than 200 years later, and audiences are still passing out at the sight of actors on stage.
Of course, this sort of thing is good for publicity. Audience members and critics often feel a morbid curiosity about a piece of entertainment so apparently shocking that it causes people to pass out, and savvy directors and PR staff have played up these reputations to increase buzz.
âMost fainting in the theater is true syncope due to emotional distress triggered by the show,â Shen said. However, some incidents may not be genuine faints. Even medical professionals and the fainters themselves can find it hard to tell the difference. Without blood-pressure and heart-rate monitors, Shen noted, it would be very difficult to distinguish between psychogenic pseudosyncope (PPS)âwhere thereâs no actual loss of consciousnessâand the real deal.
In PPS, psychological issues are manifested physically, in symptoms that mimic fainting. As van Dijk explained, âThese attacks are usually the result of unresolved psychological trauma, which can be fairly severe.â For instance, Benditt noted, âphysical/sexual abuse is reported in about one-thirdâ of patients with PPS.
This means not that some audience members are faking it, but that emotional distress can lead to either a true faint, which can be medically explained, or PPS, which canât. Researchers arenât entirely sure whatâs happening in the body during the latter. But that doesnât mean nothing is happening in the body. Benditt said of PPS sufferers heâs encountered, âthey are often immune to painful stimuli during the event.â
There are other clues about whether a collapse is a true faint or PPS. There would be catastrophic cerebral harm after several minutes without blood going to the brain, so a person who lies prostrate for 20 minutes or so, without any permanent damage, hasnât genuinely fainted. But there are also some âvery minor indicationsâ that a faint isnât genuine, neurologist van Dijk mentioned. In actual loss of consciousness, âthe eyes are almost always open,â while in apparent loss of consciousness, itâs common to report eyes closed or eyelids flickering, swallowing, and odd postures.
However, he stressed the importance of not stigmatizing fainters and pseudo-fainters, regardless of the cause. Both types can be concerning, in addition to being difficult to distinguish. And âmost people who are prone to fainting due to standing ... are also prone to fainting due to fear. It doesnât mean that theyâre psychologically less able to handle stress [or] particularly more frightened than someone else.â So if you swoon at the theater, it may not be a true loss of consciousness. And even if it is, itâs not an indication of weakness.
Shen emphasized, âReflex syncope is almost always benign. And patients who are prone to reflex syncope shouldnât be too anxious. Once youâre anxious, it may facilitate more of these spells.â People can âtake very simple precautionary stepsâ like drinking plenty of water, avoiding triggers, and staying seated. But overall, being faint of heart in these situations tends to be, well, only faintly concerning.

9/14/2017: The Shopping Apocalypse Is Nigh, So Pray For A Swift Death
By Lydia Bugg
The Bible claims that the apocalypse is going to be announced by seven angels blowing seven trumpets, but we at Cracked think there is a much more subtle indicator that the end times are near, which we've all been missing: this article from The Atlantic titled "The Future Of Retail Might Be Shops That Aren't Stores." I don't wish to be over-dramatic here, however, try to read this entire post without taking to the road to proselytize about the apocalypse.

Become Ruler Of The Robot Overlords With Raspberry Pi
It is impossible to get through the first sentence. An Apple executive says, "We actually do not call them 'stores' anymore -- we call them 'city squares.'" If you haven't passed out from internal hemorrhaging, this report continues with choice bits like "Starbucks, seeing distaste the rise of high-end competitions like Stumptown and Blue Bottle, a couple years back opened a 15,000-square-foot 'roastery' in Seattle. 'We're going to take the customer on a journey, immersing them in an interactive environment where they'll be introduced into handmade, small-batch java within feet of where they're being roasted,' Howard Schultz, Starbucks's CEO, told The New York Times. " A ... a "roastery?" Well. We're already dead, and this is Hell.
What is happening here? Are retail stores super with reality, or are we the problem? If you are among the few brave souls that will make it five paragraphs into this article without feeling the cold hands of death wrap around your neck, you'll come upon a section which discusses Urban Outfitters' acquisition of a pizza chain: "The notion is that pizzerias might be put near, or even in, the stores. 'Now you can purchase a sofa on the internet,' Marc Vetri, the chain's founder, told Bloomberg, including, 'if you want to eat in the hot new restaurant, you need to leave your living space and you need to venture out.'" Again, this really is all about Urban Outfitters. It is literally the 1 food you do not need to leave your house to obtain anywhere in the U.S.
The comforting thought I had reading this guide is that we may finally have evidence that the world is being run by lizard individuals. Corporations' only understanding of individuals appears to be "They eat, they drink, and they go to the fitness center to work off the things they ate and drank. Most curious. How can we take advantage of those humans' customer needs? How can we get them to purchase our badly assembled T-shirts? They like pizza. Maybe when we repaint them they'll take the shirts? Maybe we must construct a top which can be eaten?"
I've never before read a post about shopping that so reminded me of my mortality. Happy Thursday. Doesn't it feel just like a Friday today? We're all going to perish.
9/13/2017: The Fast & Furious Beefs Are Now A Marketing Tool
By John Cheese
There is another highly contrived, quite marketed beef happening with all the Fast & Furious crew. This time, it's between the Rock along with Tyrese Gibson -- as if you are going to use a public spat to promote a movie, it surely has to include the Rock. Tryrese went on Instagram and posted (then deleted) the following:
If you move forward with this #Hobbs movie you will have intentionally disregarded the heart to heart time we had in my sprinter -- I do not wanna hear from you till you remember what we talked about -- I'm in your timeline cause you are not reacting to my text messages -- #FastFamily is merely that a household...we do not fly solo.
Here's the thing: Their most prosperous movie was the last one, which did around $1.2 billion worldwide. That went hand in hand with all the now-famous Rock vs. Vin Diesel beef -- which, by sheer coincidence, created approximately 1.2 billion headlines in the lead-up into the movie. Let's say you are a marketing executive and you see that a job rakes in more than a billion bucks. What should you do with all the movie? Or a spinoff from that movie? You do exactly that which you did the last moment. Every trailer has to be recreated. Every interview has to be replicated. Every beef has to be rebeefed. Make no mistake, this is a promotion strategy. And it's going to continue with each new movie that they create.
The thing is, it has gotten very transparent at this time, and it's making my eye muscles. Because if I'm wrong, and it's not contrived, it means that every single individual who operates on the team of this Fast & Furious franchise is a moronic fucking child. And it means that Tyrese Gibson does not have any clue how money or movies or actors or human brains operate. So I'm going to prefer to consider it since I can not handle the idea of adults being that ungodly.
9/12/2017: Please Know Another Acting Trick, Christian Bale
By Daniel Dockery
Christian Bale, Alright. We receive it. You're really good at placing and losing weight at a rapid pace. It's quite neat, and I'm sure that you're a hit at parties, along with Guy Who Can Blow Vape Smoke Rings and Guy With An Acoustic Guitar Who Wasn't Invited.
If you had not discovered, Mad Libs has become reality today that Christian Bale is playing with Dick Cheney in an upcoming movie. Hollywood is apparently devoid. And has Bale prepared himself for the role? "I've just been eating a lot of pies," he said, presumably as mashed blueberries dropped from his pockets.
Let's quickly recount Bale's epic weight loss/gain saga, which has more play than his Batman films could muster. And as an added bonus, we will use his favourite unit of measurement: pies.
To play a Wall Street sociopath with the entire body of John Cena in American Psycho, Christian Bale obtained four pies. He maintained this burden to look rocky in Reign Of Fire, but dropped six whole pies to garner the emaciated framework required for The Machinist. Christopher Nolan arrived a-knocking using four pies stacked in each hand. "Christian, are you going to be my Batman?" Afterwards, Nolan obtained an empty pie tin, and written in miniature crust bits in the bottom of it was the phrase "Yes."
Christian dropped more pies to depict a POW in Rescue Dawn, and terrorized each pie shop in Philadelphia to get into shape for The Dark Knight. "No pies for you," said the director of The Fighter, however, Christian Bale was back in the habit for The Dark Knight Rises. From the Furnace required a comparatively pie-less daily regimen from Christian, but that was balanced by American Hustle necessitating the eating of a pie and that pie's baker each day. He looked like a guy who'd never even heard of pies in The Big Short, and today we arrive in Backseat, in which Christian Bale, sitting atop his pie throne, can actually be at peace.
But pies alone cannot truly be the inspiration for Bale body mass. In fact, I think it's reasonable to state that this could be his superpower. How else can you explain this? "I've just been eating a lot of pies" seems like the perfect cover up for Bruce Wayne just before he goes down to his cave and, in a matter of moments, changes his figure to fit his next acting role. It is why he played Batman. Batman does not have any powers either, so it alleviates suspicion that anything strange is happening.
Christian, but look. You need to conceal your skills. We're actually getting fairly sick of watching every few decades, you do this to your own body , and I'm certain that your body is pretty sick of it. Yeah, it seemed astounding when you went from The Machinist into Batman Begins, but you have become the acting equivalent of each stand-up comedian who finishes up their set with their freshest Enron along with Monica Lewinsky jokes. I'm not attempting to say that it's not impressive, as my physique, no matter what I do, appears to keep that classic "talking grub worm in a animated children's movie" look. But we know that you are talented enough to go at least three movies without suddenly revealing that you have either obtained flawless sixpack abs or a surprising affinity for XXXL shirts.
Do it for your livelihood. Do it for theatre. Do it for the pie makers of earth. They are so, so tired.
9/11/2017: PewDiePie Could Be Fired If He Had Any Additional Job
By Lydia Bugg
Surprise! PewDiePie did something racist. What's that, you say? You're not at all surprised? That is something we have discussed previously, and in length? Yet here we are again, surprised and shocked that PewDiePie dropped the N-word.
Perhaps we are not amazed, because apparently PewDiePie ought to be allowed to do a thing which would get you fired from McDonald's and not have it affect his career, but there are individuals out there defending him. Think about it -- your hand burnt on the fry machine and if you worked at McDonald's and your response was to telephone the fry machine the N-word, your manager Kyle would be asking to have a chat with you in his office.
Online gaming is the job of PewDiePie, and he makes a whole lot of money from it -- somewhere around $15 million in 2016. He said the and went into work. Since he's not just an employee, it's almost worse than simply saying the N-word at work; his performance is his product, and he is the brand. It is equal to Coca-Cola Gradually dropping the.
Twitter currently has a trending hashtag called "PewDiePie did nothing wrong." The general sentiment of diehard fans appears to be that "he didn't mean it in a terrible way," which is a thing he said in the video after adjusting from the N-word into "fucking asshole." I know that if I call people a asshole, it meant as a term of endearment. Sometimes I call up my mother on the phone and just yell "'Sup, you fucking asshole," because she's cool and she gets that I mean it in a good way.
There is also the argument that he said it "from the heat of this moment," making it OK. You do not say that phrase in the heat of the moment unless it locked and loaded in your language for use. There are 171,476 words from the English language, and he chose to use that phrase. We have all said things in the heat of the moment. There are approximately 171,475 words I would choose to say instead of this one, although I've dropped items on my toe previously. He didn't, although he might have called a shit pigeon, or the guy a piano fucker, or actually anything else. The N-word was said by him in his occupation, where the majority of his audience is children.
Now a takedown petition is filing that PewDiePie can no longer exhibit videos of the games, and they're encouraging gaming companies to follow suit. So I guess this story's moral is: Don't state the. That's a thing that has to be said to a adult individual from the year of our lord 2017.

The Reason Gold & Silver Have Frustrated Investors Since 2011
âThe marketplace WARNING LIGHTS are no more working, so when the CRASH occurs, it will be a total surprise.â
Not to anyone that reads this site
Iâm making over $14k a month working part time. I kept hearing people tell me so I chose to look into it, just how much money they can make online. Well, it was accurate and has totally changed my lifestyle. This is precisely what I do,âŚ
It is manipulated; of that I have no uncertainty.
Gold is this Petrodollahâs thermostat; TPTB have a chiller blowing to keep it.  What is the baseline?  Look in, say, a Au spot price graph.
This is done to create the petrodollah seem stronger than it is.
And weâve got an Air Force ready and prepared .  Or else we would be fighting with each other for scraps of meat at the USA streets within a couple of years.
The spot price doesnât reflect room termperature.
China is currently colluding.
So it ainât going anyplace,
The main reason why there are âfrustratedâ investor is because they THOUGHT that theyâd purchase their 3 ounces of gold and it would take to 10k per/ounce and they would go pay money for their new F150.
For people (like me) who do NOT beg for a financial meltdown, and who expect that the âcollapseâ is deferred as long as possibleâŚthe Additional 7 years to prepare has long been greater than welcome, as will be the Upcoming few yearâŚor seven years, if this is the case.   Anyone whoâs life is denominated in US dollars (i.e. your paycheck, your retirement, your resources, etc.) should NOT be praying for a financial collapse.   But, they/we/I should be preparing for it.
Unless the regime is currently causing you to drop behind. Price of living here is pumped up making squirreling away money to invest in prep more and harder. A correction is needed by us that so that older folks can retire youthful members of society can find a foot hold and actually cover home.
Now that is some significant Stress Porn.
We require a correction to ensure youthful members of society can find a foot hold and actually cover home so that older folks can retire.
Fedbucks will likely be worth nothing, but there will still be Yuan and Rubles along with Tenge along with Rials and Lira (Turkic) and cryptos. Unless you happen to develop wheat, however, on a neighborhood scale, even though an ounce of silver is still worth a loaf of bread, then it will be the only way to get it.
Value will have to be redefined, but what exactly? The system was moved into by Canada, but we know just how far away the moon is.
And even if it doesnât appear, gold and silver will never become useless like GM stock became worthless, you may always hold on to it even if on paper it is worth less than what you purchased it to just donât purchase more than you are able to afford and only sell when you want and purchase real assets with it. Because all fiat currency has had the same difficulty, or the same design the dollar long since it is a federal reserve note will match or shed value. Funding is slavery, inflation is contested. Â
Vince Linzi, Steve St Angelo articles; constantly quoting Dennis Gartman.  Whatâs next?  Perhaps you can revive Jon Nadler?
What is ZH currently coming into?  Endure another step in quality of articles and every iteration of we stalwarts and owners have to suck it up.
I disagree. My calculations indicate that a catastrophic financial event will certainly occur sometime between tomorrow and the second. I have to point out that my calculations have a margin of error of approximately 80 percent. I hope this information proves helpful to the ordinary investor.
There is/are individuals whoâll say âI had not been warned that mockets was so poor. My wealth is gone.â
Then there is the individuals who want a tiny bit longer they will cash out and leave.
I have no clue when the mockets will melt over or down fast time.
My comment will be this 1 sentence too.
Keep in mind that while weâre clammoring, fighting and losing our sanity attempting to accumulate these worthless paper debt components or entries in a database, even the jeuws are occupied accumulating the sole money which exists and that the entire world is saturated with money that is funny. Get a few to you and simply put it away for the time when the newspaper and digits assume their value â nothing whatsoever.
They have all of the money have all of the time to think and plan our passing and that is exactly what they have been doing for hundreds of years.
I said it âwasâ in a bubble, the identical buttocks pain Gold bugs believe will be sensed by those buy-n-hold lemmings getting prepared to take a huge loss long the S&P and also their ETF.
I pile myself when I have money to do silver.
However chase a market? Â Â Nope. It is circulating dollars and about monetray fall. Â Â Stop by a jewler you see no money, less gold. Â Â A bid is not which makes it very commodity driven that my buddy is the time to purchase, and at which it will fall next marketplace corrrection.
Thus Kocic is the new financial hero? May want to put down the doom narrative for a sec and check the track record of the guy.
We are in the beginning stages of deflation which will make the Great Depression look like a bathroom tub wave vs. the Tsunami that is ready to hit.
Gold will go down to below $300 and probably a low of around $200.
So yes, continue buying gold so I can keep selling it and take your money like the fools you are.
I will be a buyer of gold again as it goes below $300 but not NOW!
Money will be king through this coming melancholy.
This manâs an idiot. Â Â He will keep selling the stone that he doesnât own and can not afford.
âHey, my name is truthalwayswinsout and Iâve got a bunch of gold to market because the price Will keep falling. Â Â I wonât sell it all now but instead as the cost drops, within a Time Period, so I could sell at lower prices than if I purchased it all 40, I will sell it for you. Â Â Have I told you that Iâm a moron?â
In the end, the power of the printing press will prevail, IF the Fed and all their central bank brethren cannot defeat deflation initially. Because the solution spells doom inflation will be demanded by govts someway . Sovereign bankruptcies throughout the planet will prompt the BIS/IMF monetarists to guarantee the world awash. Their rescue attempts will inevitably result in hyperinflation. imo.
Secondly, in a deflationary environment $300 will probably be difficult to increase today, for investing in PMs as $ 1225. It doesnât function like many think. Ohhh, $300, thatâll be economical. I will just wait. No, if Au falls into $300/oz. , you will be wishing it was 1225 because you had some form of revenue and a task. With Au priced $800 below typical current production costs, to be renewable, costs (labour, gas, etc) will have fallen dramatically. To allow you to buy at $ 300, otherwise, there will be no Au.
Ultimately, my bet is fundamental banks. In the end, both banks will probably be nationalized or another kind of financial policy will be employed to start. Iâd far rather be sitting with a pile of PMs than needing when it was accessible, Iâd have purchased after this occurs. Â
Money is dependent on the cash bigly, US dollar, and complete disaster itâll fall into 1 Yuan to 100 US.
Metals that are all helpful, metals have a cost of production, mainly.
So copper tin lead zinc, are a much better store of value that is truly an IOU, which a money lender who will flee writes IOU.
The biggest frustration to a lot of valuable metals traders, is the reason why have the gold and silver prices under-performed the marketplace since 2011?  Actually, for gold it was because 2012.  Its average cost was greater in 2012 compared to $ 1,571 the calendar year, even though gold hit a fresh record high of $ 1,900 in September 2011.
Regardless, the valuable metals analysts ago in 2012 were forecasting the market was going to experience much higher gold and silver prices after QE 3 was announced by the Fed in the end of 2012.   However, surprise took the precious metals community since the gold and silver prices were hammered in the end of 2012 and into the beginning of 2013:
In this period of time, the price dropped 30% along with the price that was silver declined nearly 50 percent.  Did something change in the markets for investors to abruptly ditch valuable metals?  Actually, something really big happenedâŚ. . THE MARKETS BROKE.   Of course, many from the other media consider the financial market died in 2008, but when we look at a different index⌠it certainly demonstrates that the markets drastically changed even farther in 2012.
The following charts (below) from the report, , show that the industry is completely under-pricing RISK by orders of magnitude not seen before.  But when I say âunder-pricing riskâ, all this indicates is that the marketplace does not have any idea of the dangers ahead.  Itâs similar to somebody driving a car that doesnât realize the engine is burning up and the brakes donât work because the WARNING LIGHTS are not working.   So, the poor slob proceeds to speed down the street, without out a care in the world⌠until the car blows up or that he heads across a cliff.
In the Deutsche Bank article linked above, analyst Aleksandar Kocic supplying evidence that the WARNING LIGHTS from the marketplace are no longer working:
Regular readers are knowledgeable about this Economic Policy Uncertainty (EPU) indicator that is made by limiting the frequency of articles in ten leading US newspapers which include three of their goal terms: economy, doubt; and even more of Congress, shortage, Federal Reserve, laws, regulation or White House. Their own means and standard deviations of phenomenon then normalizes these amounts and combined in an indicator. As such, EPU is entirely marketplace independent (in the same manner the mechanisms of a coin toss is more relative to any specific bet).
Okay⌠the description of how this index above may be a little difficult to comprehend, so I will simplify it.  The BLUE LINE represents the âEconomic Uncertainty Policyâ (EPU indicator) exhibited from the frequency of articles in the MainStream networking.  The BLACK LINE is the VIX indicator, the volatility indicator (S&P 500).  Fundamentally, economic uncertainty printed in articles in the Mainstream Media must correspond with all the volatility index of their markets (the VIX).
And⌠that is exactly what took place from 1996 to 2011.  The black and blue lines transferred down and up in tandem.  However something changed.  In accordance with Kocic:
Intuitively, when VIX is in tune with EPU, the industry is acknowledging the degree of hazard. When VIX EPU large and is reduced, markets are somewhat complacent â theyâre currently underpricing risk.
After 2011, the 2 measures of risk decouple with VIX always low despite growing doubt. The breakdown is structural, and it is visible across all market sectors, not only equities.
What Kocic is saying is that the marketplace has become highly complacent and can be underpricing danger.  At the two charts, Kocic chooses the gap between the VIX along with EPU Index to Obtain the second graph in the bottom.  As we can see, something changed following 2011, and notably after 2016.
This graph is showing the amount of COMPLACENCY.  By 1996 to 2011, the market complacency level fluctuated around the bottom line.  After 2011, economy complacency is trended much greater.
According to the post:
This is where matters get much more interesting, because by this step, âit appears that the markets have left a structural change towards greater degrees of complacency in the previous six years.â Here, Kocic reunite into his old, cautious self, warning that this decoupling will lead to tears. This is how he frames it:
Current levels of complacency are more alarming. This is what everybody is talking about. The market volatility will not grow despite growing anxieties and uncertainties. Persistence of reduced volatility reinforces one placement and is raising the penalty for dissent. As a result, the possibility of disorderly loosen is increasing.
Because market volatility is low, shareholders have been brainwashed to think EVERYTHING IS OKAY.  Alas, the problem is very dire because the marketâs âWarning Lightsâ have now been turned off.
I decided to consider that graph above and show at what stage the price surfaced:
Thereâs no denying that the gold price peaked at the same moment the EPU â Economic Policy Uncertainty indicator decoupled from the VIX, shown at the end of 2011.  The marketplace was deluded to think that GOLD DOESNâT MATTER anymore.  This is shown in VIX indicator, since it continues to trend reduced into the Exact Same level in 2007⌠until all hell broke lose from the markets:
Again, the EPU Index simply demonstrates just how much âUncertaintyâ is currently happening from the markets via articles on the MainStream networking.  According Kocic, the EPU Index below, has been since 2016, to:
However, the VIX Index (volatility) is currently at the same level it was in 2007.  Which suggests, the Marketplace is completely ignoring ALL THE BAD NEWS coming out of their Mainstream Financial Media.  Again, it is exactly like a speeding car heading down the street with a motor prepared to blow off and without the brakes, however, the driver doesnât know anything is incorrect because the warning lights are not working.
So, for all the frustrated valuable metals investors around who remain to BELLY-ACHE and COMPLAIN that the âAdvisors Got It Wrongâ regarding gold and silver because 2011âŚÂ have also been BAMBOOZLED, such as the rest of the current market, which EVERYTHING IS FINE.  Well, it is not.
Okay⌠so, WHEN will COLLAPSE happen??  If I had that answer, it would be able to pick the winning numbers on the lottery ticket.  The indicators, such as the ones point out that the problem in the markets have been deteriorated much quicker than before.  The Central Banks asset purchases of $1.5 trillion in the first five weeks of 2017, are more than twice the annual tendency since 2011.
The U.S. and Global Oil Industry is being GUTTED from the interior due to the current low oil price.  Since , the worldwide oil and gas industryâs total debt is currently closer to $1 trillion versus $1 trillion in 2006.  These energy companies have to pay a great deal of INTEREST EXPENSE to support their enormous debt.  When the energy industry starts to really disintegrate, then itâll take down the entire market.
My gut tells me that this will start to occur within the subsequent 6 months.  It might happen or it may take.  There is no method.  Therefore, donât attempt to.  It might be wise to own some real precious metals until the marketplace cracks, or it make be hard to get anyâŚ. Or if thatâs the case, at substantially higher prices.
For those who continue to get frustrated by the precious metals cost, silver is down another 20 cents as I compose this guide, have a great LOOK at the charts within this report. Â The marketplace WARNING LIGHTS are no more functioning, so when the CRASH occurs, it will be a complete surprise.

Nevertheless, ought to your skin layer different colors be from a darker , depart quickly before our experts are pushed to take action. When you designate somebody pompous you are actually claiming that they are actually aiming to be one thing besides on their own; you are testing their quite identification. An individual with grandiosity could appear insanely braggy, pompous, or even pompous. Inevitably youll beginning running into expressions like overblown, a qualifier that describes someone being actually pompous or making use of foreign language thats swollen-headed, like officials in federal government or even wrestling tremendously stars during their series. I don't assume this's as significant of a bargain as that seems to be that folks are scamming wealthy folks into getting crappy craft that scams ideas from a lot more appealing artists. I believe that along with work our experts can make amazing individuals like Mike Smiarowski much less from a rarity and additional from an everyday delight. That hit me recently that there are mosting likely to be a Considerable Amount Of pompous, egoistic, residing of father's money as well as possessing 4 A after being actually assembly-line pressed through some independent school southerners at Uni. As well as this at once when it is ending up being more and more an open secret that people don't prefer to check out advertisements (if they really ever before performed!). Asserting about policies, guidelines and also appropriate or incorrect ways of carrying out points is one method from talking about the amateur and the qualified; social classifications that make pretentiousness an even knottier issue. The waiter provided the biggest laminated as well as very most complicated menu Leo had actually ever observed and afterwards put 2 large glasses of freshly created iced herbal tea. Folks along with big egos are actually generally thus loaded with themselves that they don't assume anybody can probably test all of them. Mentioning that a person is pompous may be a method from calling out the features as well as incongruities of power. Im merely saddening that its own over yet I carried out get a really good 7-8 months from marginal play off the video game therefore im happy. To be truthful, I prefer to hang out with these folks compared to with along with you, as you come upon as totally undesirable. They were cultivated by women in the Heian time period and also are still taken into consideration feminine through Japanese people. If the game was actually located around accounts then you would certainly correct to anticipate more stories and also right to become let down when you were instantly welcomed along with line puzzles! It is actually additionally suggested to name Pretentious.install _ watcher at an early stage to be capable to generate much better fixtures. The fifth video game ends with Magenta pointing out that she'll wait for Gray to become complimentary, so she may not have separated him after all. Few from the self recognized players I encounter review a lot away from style myth, several tend heavily in the direction of STALK fields as well as several have actually never come across tarkovsky and also fast to assume that whatever film the candle little in this dumb game arises from must be actually artistic wank that people only make believe to just like. In some cases affluent individuals create fine art for other prosperous individuals, yet that has held true for a lengthy opportunity. It is actually still only a painting of pair of folks with nothing special about that which your average decently trained painter nowadays (which our team have plenty in this particular time as well as age) can easily create as well as help make far better. Yet beyond the job titles, a ton of developers encounter as ostentatious in each of their foreign language. Nowadays trying to force people to accept interruption is simply mosting likely to switch them off more. It is actually a paint from 2 people, that's it. In terms of premium by exactly how the people were actually coated, you could not necessarily even call it excellent. If being real is actually looked at a virtue - what we should try to be in community - then being actually pretentious is actually considered a cover-up, a face-palm to your background. Appreciate the uncommon and uncluttered aesthetics from Ostentatious Activity and jump totally right into an imaginative as well as deeper tale. The daffodil cut florals can easily stand up to from 4 to 8 times, if they are meticulously attended. Without the permissions that gives - the permit to attempt new expertises, to experiment with suggestions, to find if you desire to live your life one more way - people from all sort of backgrounds will certainly not be left open to variation, to new ideas or the histories of their chosen industry. That's not something countless folks do when they wake up in the early morning, as well as like you pointed out, along with pictures they could be carried out in different means to have various colours as well as illumination. Several males locate sexy Oriental gals attractive nonetheless Eastern gals can commonly really feel threatened or even discourageded by males coming from various other cultures and therefore can easily come across as pompous or appear 'held up'. When David Bowie suited up like an intergalactic peacock as Ziggy Stardust (visualized), many believed he was actually beyond ostentatious. Gout arthritis is an immensely very painful kind of joint inflammation - thus excruciating that the majority of people can not birth the weight from a plume on the tender joint. The fourth game in the series focuses on the domestic connection between Magenta's little girl as well as boy.

MID textual analysis.
1.) which genre does the piece fit in to?
Made in Dagenham is classed as a Musical, this is the definition of a musical  âa play or film in which singing and dancing play an essential part. Musicals developed from light opera in the early 20th century.â In made in Dagenham There are 17 main numbers which involve large amounts of singing and some dancing, these help to tell the story. Making it a musical.
2.) Where is the piece set?
The musical is set in the working class area of Dagenham, a suburban area of East London. It Is set at mainly the Ford factory where most of the areas inhabitants work. It also mainly focuses on the womens sewing department of the factory.
3.) What is the significance of the location?
The location is significant to the story as Dagenham is a predominantly working class area, so the women have to work to contribute to their families a well as most of them being full time mothers as well. Showing a working class population of women shows their strength. which is the message of the story.
4.) When is the piece set?
The musical is set in 1968.
5.) Are there any any specific references to to the day, seasons or year?
In the song âBusy Womenâ it doesnât specify a season, but eddie refers to it being Tuesday but thinks it maybe pancake day, in 1968 pancake fell on the 7th of February, this suggests it may be in early spring as thatâs traditionally when pancake day occurs. but the song âstorm cloudsâ at the start of act two its describing the pathetic falicy as the rain allegorically describes the mood of the number. The fact of the rain could suggest âApril showersâ. Although in the song pay day, its saying that the girls have received their pay, but this means that between the song âpay day and the scene in which the girls get their strike pay a month must have passed.
Also the fact that Harold wilson is prime minister at the same time Barbra castle was Secretary of State for Education and Employment productivity describes the year to be between 1968-1970. also  Eddie says in scene 6 just after pay day that âMillwallâs last season in Division 3 South, so thatâs 1958. I been married about ten years.â Which indicates that the Musical is set 1968.
however i have found contradictory research that in the actually historical records, the trike occurs in June, but the text implies it occurs in late April as thatâs when the Eastbourne meeting for the TUC occurred.
6.) How much time passes?
The musical starts on a Tuesday as in âBusy womenâ Eddie states he day is Tuesday. The ford women walked out on strike on June 7 1968, as the 7th was a Friday, then the previous Tuesday discussed in âbusy women must be the 4th of June 1968. The strike lasted for three weeks taking the date to june 28th after the TUC conference in Eastborne was held an earned them for an equal pay amendment which was finalised in 1970. So in total the duration of the musical spreads over 24 days.
7.) How is the passage of time represented?
The passage of time is represented in the emphasis of specific days and the emotion of each day, for example, the song âpay dayâ describes the end of another working month for the factories workers and the relief and element of hope and happiness as they actually get some enjoyment besides work and looking after their families. There is also a scene where the women are given strike pay, this shows that a month has passed within the story, it also shows the âchange in the timeâ, from a time f fun and menial purpose, to a time of struggle but also of importance.
8.) How wealthy are the characters?
The characters Lisa , Hopkins, Babara castle, Harold Wilson, the Aids, and tooley are all highly wealthy characters as they all work in politics or are married to politicians.
The factory workers such as Sid, Monty, Bill, Connie, Rita, Clare, Cass, Sandra, Emma, Tracy, Jo, Rachel and Beryl are all lower working class characters, as because they work in a factory their pay grade is b which is classed as un-skilled which means that they are only payed the minimum wage, also the girls only get a fraction of what the men get, so their monthly income is even less.
9.) Is there a hierarchy?
This is a basic diagram I made of what i believe to be the heighrachy in the musical.
10.) How does their wealth or lack of it affect their characters?
Wealth and status affects the hardship each character has faced, so the hardships faced by the lower paid and lower classed women factory workers will be hardships such as poverty, poor health and working conditions. So as a result their characters/ personalities have developed to withstand these hardships, e.g. they are more comfortable with the idea of hard labour, working hard and putting u with lower standards of living. The factory wrkers also affects their level of education that they have recieved, for example none of the ladies i the factory went to college because they coulnât afford to as the were expected to get a job and contribute to the household income. this therefor means that their use of language uses only basic vocabulary mixed with idialects of where they were raised. so for Dagenham raised factory workers, they use phrases such as ââkinell!â to make up for more educated or eloquent phrases. this is shown in the seen between Rita and Mr Buckton, Rita asks âErgo? is that latin?â. This shows her lack of education and there for, lack of wealth.
The higher classed characters in the story are used to working using their intellect and education rather than with their labour and skill. this means that their characters have adapted to fit their expected role within society. Hardships someone of that class and wealth would be more social or political e.g. Lisa Hopkins is emotionally isolated and ornamented by her husband. Hopkins earns enough money that, it is seen as unnecessary for Lisa to work or raise her own child, so they send their child to boarding school and all Lisa doe is serve Hopkins as a doting wife with nothing more to do other than pick out nice dresses.this adapts her character, as she has become bitter by her situation. but due to her education, intellect and wealth, she puts across her views very eloquently and concisely e.g. âI thought Ford was merely in the habit of shooting strikersâ . This explains her complete disdain for the situation herself and society is in , but rather than go on, she intelligently puts it into one sentence. This is largely due to her wealth and education.
11.  What are the social environments of the characters like?
12.  Are their differences in the social backgrounds and current environments?
13.  How will this affect how the characters will interact with one another?
14.  Are any of the characters influenced by events/beliefs?
15.  What effect does this have on the way the characters behave?
16.  What clues are there to the past lives of the characters?
17.  How will their past affect their futures?
18.  Are there any references to key events prior to the play?
11. How does this affect them now?
Lisa describes fords history with strikers in storm clouds with president Tooley âMichigan â32 is historyâ in which Lisa replies with âfive strikers dead and sixty chained to their hospital beds with shotgun woundsâ. I made the link that Connie would have been a mature teen when this occurred and so she remembers the Michigan incident of 1932, here is an article I found describing the tragic events http://www.workers.org/2009/us/ford_hunger_march_0402/. As a result, for thirty years she was scared of holding a strike, for fear of what could happen to them. Itâs also why sheâs so passionate about trying to put across her views and is more savvy about understanding her rights. For example, in âpay dayâ Connie doesnât join in with the fun because she has to âfinish this speechâ. Also, in the scene in the Bernie inn, she admits to never getting with Monty because she was âalready married to the labour party, and what a lousy husband he turned out to beâ. This describes how mistreated she has been for her beliefs, this affects how she treats Rita, as she is always very serious and tries to inspire Rita ânothing changes if it isnât challengedâ as she is constantly trying to raise the issues and themes of equality but is ignored by the men âI was out voted by the menâ, and so tries to get Rita to stand with her.
 12. Are there conflicts of tension between what the characters want?
Yes, at the start of the show, Rita goes to the TUC meeting to get C grade back, but Connie wants equal pay âthis donât just have to be about C gradeâ âI only came to get C grade backâ. This shows the conflicting interests.
Sandra wants a career in modelling, no matter whether the pay is equal pay or not, where as Rita wants to stay in her job but with equal pay. These conflicts are shown in the scene after âCortinaâ where Rita says âitâs about equal payâ after which Sandra replies with âeven if we get equal pay, itâll still be a shit job, only a shit job with equal payâ.
 13. Do the main characters want to change their situations?
Clare wants to change her situation, by working overtime enough so that she can save enough money by for a flat and a wedding for her and ken, so she can live with the man she loves despite her low income âyeah I got two hours of â overtime â tonightâ âwhat you saving up for?â â a â deposit, on a â flatâ.
Other main characters such as Rita, Connie, Barbara, Harold, Beryl, Sandra and Lisa all want to change their situations at the start of the musical.
 14. Is there a difference in what the characters say they will do and actually do?
Clare says she is going to tell the manegment what she thinks, this is shown in the number âwossanameâ. However, she meets Barbara Castle in the scene leading up to the number âideal worldâ, but spends a lot of the time silent, other than a few remarks which imply that she doesnât understand the conversation âwhat was all that about eating elephantsâ.
President Tooley says he will âmove to Belgiumâ if the strike isnât broken, however the women achieve equal pay and yet there is no evidence of him or ford transferring to Belgium.
 15. How does morality or upbringings affect the characters actions?
The upbringing of the characters affects mainly their re-actions, for example clare hears Barbara say âmasticationâ and giggles with a smutty undertone, indicating her level of education due to a lower class upbringing. This therefor affects her reactions to the world around her.
Barbara was raised In a lower class compared to most politicians at the time, and as a result still maintained her down to earth, left wing morals, these affect her actions, for example she invites Rita and some of the working class strikers to sit in her office and talk about the situation. Other higher class politicians might not have wanted to talk to working lower class women. Barbaraâs morality also shows in the way she treats Rita and the other strikers, âIâm gonna do something unheard of for a politician, Iâm not going to lie to youâ. This shows her understanding of what the lower classes think of politicians, the source of which comes from her upbringing.
 16. Are there direct references to the characters appearances?
There are a few references to the colour of Barbara castleâs hair within the comical line âfiery, like her hairâ, this describes her red hair to be the colour of fire as well as adding comedy to her character.
Another link I have made through studying the text is that in a scene within the number âstorm cloudsâ, Hopkins makes the comment âitâs a swiss dish, like lisa.â. Even though Lisa denies this fact, the reference could have been made as a result of her appearance i.e. she appears of swiss origin. When I looked up a swiss appearance, it came up with pale skin, blue eyes and fair hair. This gives an indication to Lisaâs appearance.
 17. Are there any connections between how a character looks and behaves?
The previous reference to barbaraâs appearance âfiery, like her hair.â Is also a description of Barbaraâs personality, in that it is âfieryâ i.e short tempered and brave and at times rash. This is also a common stereotype that people with red or ginger hair are more likely to have short tempers and stronger emotions.
 18. What is the significance of the title? (Metaphoric or literal)
âmade in dagenhamâ could be a reference to the trade of the workers who live in Dagenham as they âmakeâ cars for a living. It could also mean that a significant moment in history was âmade in dagenhamâ.
In a more literal sense, it could refer to the majority of main characters within the musical were created âin dagenham.â
 19. Are there any key lines or speeches that summarise or capture the mood of the play?
At the end of the song âstand upâ Barbara Castle gives a speech            Â
This summarises the amazing progress that the characters have made to change history, this creates an atmosphere which is inspirational and full of pride.
Throughout the musical there a few key lines within the larger musical numbers which encapsulate what the characters are thinking and feeling. For example, âstand upâ is the main line within the number of the same name. By repeating the same line, it allows for interpretation, so although the literal meaning of the line is asking the men to stand up to vote for the equal pay amendment, the metaphorical meaning could be to stand up for yourself. This repetition is effective as it creates an atmosphere of pride and inspiration.
 20. What is the main plot and how does it develop?
The women Ford factory workers get re graded to an unskilled grade which pays a lot less, as a result they register a formal grievance, and Rita and Connie attend a meeting with the TUC in which it becomes apparent that itâs about getting equal pay. After coming out of the meeting Rita decides that they need to hold a strike in order to achieve equal pay. They strike for three weeks in which they are made poor by strike pay, the Ford factory is closed down which means 3,000 of the men get fired. The women strikers meet with Barbara castle who offers them 92% percent of the mens pay, but Rita turns it down. The ford Dagenham work force then attends a TUC conference in Eastborne, In which Rita gives a speech which convinces the men to agree to the equal pay amendment. This then develops to the women workers of Ford Dagenham getting equal pay.
 21. Is there a sub plot?
There are a few sub plots within the musical:
Barbara and harolds â PM Harold Wilson has gotten britain into severe debt after owing large amounts of money from the second world war, also the musical is set at a period of severe industrial unrest, in which masses of strikes are causing the trade figures to suffer. In order to find a solution to the situation, he hires Barbara Castle (who at the time is head secretary for transport) to be the secretary for unemployment. Barbara then seeks to ban the strikes, but is denied the order by Harold. Barbara then meets Rita by accident and arranges a meeting with the other girls from the factory in which she offers a deal of 92% menâs pay in exchange for their return to work. Rita also denies this request, Barbara admires this and sends her best wishes to the women with hopes for their success.
Rita and Eddie â husband and wife, their storyline is based on how the marriage copes with rita being on strike. Eddie leaves rita half way through act 2 and takes the kids because he feels so neglected by his wife, he then makes it up to her when he comes to see her perform her speech to a large TUC audience.
Lisa, rita and mr Buckton â Rita and lisaâs sons are both getting caned at school by the latin teacher mr buckton
Hopkins and tooley.
